Don't miss it! Our first show in NYC in a while; we'll be performing mostly brand-new material including our rootsy originals and a few covers ranging from a Delta Blues classic (Skip James’ Hard Times Killin’ Floor Blues ) to Brazilian Afro-Samba (Baden Powell’s Canto de Xangô). We are in the process of working up new material for our second CD, to be recorded in the Spring of 2008.

Originally from Gaudeloupe, young vocalist Christelle Durandy brings a wide knowledge of Afro-Cuban music and the Paris jazz and world music scenes to her first appearance with the Octet. She has studied and recorded with Ivan Darroman Montoya in Cuba, and has also worked with Carlos “El Bola” Betancourt, Baptiste Trotignon, Jo Benoti, Edouard Leys, Karl W. Davis and The Milkmen, and Company Erebe-Kouliballets. Christelle has been tearing it up in rehearsals; I'm really looking forward to this show with her!!!

Also joining us with his deep and uniquely funky Austro-Afro-Cuban groove will be Rumbatap innovator Max Pollak.
